Students of the Year Rio Grande Valley
Alessandra Garcia | Team North Star
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, welcome!
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Alessandra Garcia, and I am 17 years old and a current junior in high school. I am so honored to say that this past year, I was nominated to be a candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 2022 Students of the Year Program. As a candidate I lead a team of hardworking, dedicated members who hope to leave a positive impact on the world and who are determined to win the fight against blood cancer, and we need your help in supporting this amazing international non-profit! I encourage you to help us support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by making a donation to my fundraising page. Your donation helps the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society continue their mission to provide groundbreaking research in medical treatments and a possible cure to blood cancer, education and support to all their patients, and the ability to continue advocating at a state and federal level for legislation to help those living with blood cancer.
LLS was first founded in 1949 by two grieving parents, Rudolph and Antoinette de Villiers, who had lost their 16 year old son to Leukemia. Since then, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has made a tremendous effort in searching for a cure to blood cancer as well as improving the quality of life of patients and families. LLS has invested nearly $1.3 billion dollars in cutting-edge research as well as helping advance over 85% of FDA approved blood cancer treatment options since 2017.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society works tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis, LLS provides hope, compassion, education and support. Thanks to research and access to better treatments, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled since 1960. Still, Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of 20, and every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Which is why we need your help! Every donation and dollar you contribute to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society gets us one step closer in finding a cure for blood cancer. I ask you to please help my team (North Star) and I reach our $30,000 dollar fundraising goal. Thank you in advance for your time, consideration, and support of the mission of LLS, and like we say here at LLS, beating cancer is in our blood!
All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!
