Dear Friends & Family,

Before we get into the details, here’s a little bit about us!   

I, Elena (on the left of pic below) am currently a senior at Riverdale High. I’m involved in many things like tennis, soccer, sports management, leadership, ASB, the Leo’s club, and have been the student board representative for the last 3 years. One thing I told myself as I became a freshman in high school was that I would find a way to make a positive impact on those around me whether it was big or small. That has led me to this opportunity! I love taking on challenges, no matter how hard.  

I, Alondra Gonzalez, (on the right of pic below) am also a senior at Riverdale High. I am involved in school and community organizations such as volleyball, soccer, Medical Outreach club, cancer awareness, Leo’s club, CSF, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California, FFA, Ag leadership, class Vice President, Health Youth Corps, and drama. One thing about me is that I want to make a difference in my community, no matter how big or small, I want to make an impact and leave my mark to continue seeing change within my community.   

This year, we are privileged to be nominated as candidates and lead Team Vaquera’s Against Cancer, in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) 2023 Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign.  Student Visionaries of the Year is a seven-week fundraising competition led by high school students to raise money to support LLS and their cause. We are writing today to ask for your support for our campaign and LLS’s mission to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, or myeloma.   

From March 2nd to April 21st, Vaquera's Against Cancer’s goal is to raise over $25,000! Yes, you read that correctly, more than $25,000 in 7 weeks, which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission. We are certain our friends and family are the most generous and strongest among any of the candidates this year and we look forward to letting you know that our campaign has reached its goal! We know this is an ambitious undertaking, especially being from a small, rural community, but we know that we can achieve it with the help of our amazing friends and families!
