I am honored to say that I am a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionary of the Year campaign. I am writing today to ask for your support in my efforts to help LLS in its mission to ensure access to cures and treatments for blood cancers. I am competing against several other Student of the Year candidates in Kern County and together we will each put our best fundraising foot forward in honor of all those fighting blood cancer.

Blood cancer has impacted my family. In 2019, at the age of 9 years old, I was diagnosed with High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. My experience of overcoming blood cancer serves as a vibrant example of the fight against these diseases. I underwent several months of intensive chemotherapy, which caused several side effects including reactions to blood and platelet transfusions. With strong support, determined strength, and faith I achieved remission.I have created a team of committed friends and family to partner with me on this journey. Together, we have set a fundraising goal of $50,000! All the money that is raised goes directly to the largest blood cancer research program in the nation, LLS, to fund cutting-edge research and treatments. In fact, the treatments that LLS is funding benefit non-blood cancer patients too. More than 40% of new cancer treatment drugs approved by the FDA since 2004 started as blood cancer drugs are now being applied in other forms of cancer.

Please make a check payable to “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society” and print “Gisselle Guerrero”, in the Memo section.
