Ellie's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Feb 19, 2021

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page, welcome!

We, Ellie Diener and Nicole Smittcamp, are very excited to announce we have been nominated to participate as candidates for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year Campaign. This campaign runs from February 19, 2021 - April 9, 2021. We are writing today to ask for your support of our campaign and LLS’s mission to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and their families.

During these unprecedented times, we knew this would be the perfect opportunity to make a difference from home and give back to our community. When you donate to LLS, you make an impact on the lives of cancer patients and their families when it’s needed most. Blood cancer patients are at a higher risk of being infected by COVID-19, which adds even more fear and stress to the patients, caregivers, and families.

We have assembled a team of committed friends and family to partner with us on this journey. Many families including our own have experienced the devastating effects of a loved one battling cancer. Over the past 10 years LLS has assisted in funding 34 new blood cancer drugs, all of which show promise in treating other cancers. If we accomplish our fundraising goal of $150,000 we will be able to link research grants to our honored hero, local Leukemia survivor Natalia Negron.

Please visit our website as often as you can and share it with everyone you know who would also like to join us in the fight against cancer. Together, we have the power, the passion and the resolve to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible. On behalf of cancer patients and their families everywhere, I sincerely thank you for your support!

Congratulations on your journey to raise money for this worthwhile cause. Our daughter, Lauren and her dear friend Maddie, participated in 2017 in honor of Central High's football coach, Justin Garza, who battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma and subsequently passed away during their campaign. His "Stand For More" motto lives on as one of our favorite family "words to live by" sayings. Thank you for giving yourselves to this fundraiser. It will be an experience you never forget!

Nicole - Congratulations on your nomination to participate in the 2021 LLS Students of the Year Campaign. My daughter Brandi is a RN at St Joseph hospital in Denver. The past 11 years she’s worked in the oncology unit caring for cancer patients. In addition my dad Ed had pre leukemia which required blood transfusions every 2 weeks for 4 years prior to his passing in 2014. So this cause is very near and dear to my heart. I hope you reach your fundraising goal. But always remember it’s the journey and experience you’re getting that will be a long lasting influence in your life. I’m very proud of the effort you’re making on behalf of Natalia Negron. Kudos to you and you’re friend Ellie. Keep up the great work. Steve Romano
