Dear Friends and Family,

Every year the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society launches the Student of The Year fundraising campaign.  I have been given a huge opportunity by being nominated as a 2020 Student of The Year candidate for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). We have been working hard to get ready for this campaign. We are so excited to be part of this together. 

I am writing you today to ask for your help and support of LLS’s mission to find a cure for blood cancer and to support patients and their families as they battle this horrible disease. Since they started this in 1964 only 3% of children survived after being diagnosed, but now LLS has raised the survival rate to 96%.  LLS helped advance 44 of the 50 blood cancer treatment options approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 2017. By doing this LLS is helping so many people we all love. You never know when cancer can strike someone that you love so now is the time to help.   

When Nadia was in fourth grade, she read a book called “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes”. The story was about a young girl named Sadako that lived in Japan in the 1950’s, shortly after the devastating Hiroshima disaster, and her fight to beat Leukemia. She is told if she created 1,000 paper cranes the gods would take away her sickness. However, in the end she was only able to create 644 cranes before she passed away. She remembers how much that book impacted her as a child and how she first learned what Leukemia was. Now, years later and we am given the extraordinary opportunity to step up and help support the cause.

From January 23, 2020 - March 13, 2020, our team goal is to raise $80,000 which goes directly to LLS to support patients and their families in the goal of living without blood cancer.
