Students of the Year Bakersfield

Bailey Rylie | Bailey Rylie's Campaign Team

Welcome to Bailey Rylie's SOY Fundraising Page!

Feb 06, 2020

Dear Family & Friends,

Each year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Student of the Year fundraising campaign, and we were honored to join this year’s efforts as team R&B. We are writing to you today to ask for your support in The Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s efforts to find cures for blood cancers, treatment of patients, along with assisting their families as they battle these diseases.

From February 5th 2020 to March 27th 2020 our team goal is to raise $50,000 which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding goal: a world without blood cancers. If we raise $50,000 by March 27th 2020, we can link our team name to an LLS-funded research portfolio to honor our efforts to help people with blood cancers.

You may ask why two high school aged students are spending their time raising money for LLS? Well, let me introduce you to JJ Motton and GG Guerrero, both are local survivors of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. We have had the honor of meeting these brave fighters and in doing so it has given us even more motivation to reach our goal. By reaching our goal we will receive a grant that gives us the privilege of placing $50,000 in the hands of The Children's  Care Initiative for Childhood Leukemia and Lymphoma Research. Only 4 out of the 55 FDA approved drugs for blood cancer are for children with Leukemia and Lymphoma. Team R & B wants to change that. With your help we can increase the number of treatments for Childhood Leukemia and Lymphoma. Like many of you, we have witnessed first-hand the debilitating effects that leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma can have on those who suffer from these blood cancers, and on the friends and family who care for and nurture their loved ones.

There are many reasons to be a proud supporter of LLS’s efforts. For instance, 46 of the 53 new drugs approved by the FDA since 2017 were funded by LLS. Many of these LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but go on to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers, also noncancerous diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. They are even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate, as well as noncancerous diseases such as diabetes and lupus. This is an organization that is making an impact with the dollars it raises, and we are proud to be associated with LLS.

This is where you come in. Please make your tax deductible donation on our personal fundraising pages at https://events.lls.org/cca/bfdsoy20/bproffitt or https://events.lls.org/cca/bfdsoy20/rduncan . If you’d prefer you can also mail a check made payable to LLS to 1800 30th Street Fourth Floor Bakersfield CA 93301. Please write our names in the memo section of the check. Together we can begin to make an impact on those currently fighting cancer as well as changing the future outcomes for potential victims. Every cent counts.

We thank you in advance for supporting this incredible cause.

Sincerely,

Rylie Duncan and Bailey Proffitt
