Lila McNamee | Team Survive & Thrive

Lila's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Feb 10, 2022

I am thrilled to share with you that I have been nominated to be a candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Students of the Year program! As a Student of the Year candidate, I have joined together with many of my friends to create our own fundraising team…SURVIVE & THRIVE. The mission of both “Survive & Thrive” and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is to cure blood cancers through research and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families through advocacy. I look forward to fighting blood cancer and hope you will accompany me on this journey to continuously learn and save lives.

All the members of “Survive & Thrive” are part of Generation Z and are under the age of 18. We feel connected to our generation and leukemia is the #1 most diagnosed form of childhood cancer. We are honored to be given the opportunity to help youth like ourselves. Unfortunately, more than one-third of blood cancer patients do not survive five years after their diagnosis, but that is where LLS is making a difference. Since their founding in 1949, they have invested more than $1 billion in research! Over that time, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled.

All this amazing research is funded by generous people like YOU! On January 27, 2022, “Survive & Thrive” we will be launching our seven-week-long campaign (January 27, 2022 -March 18, 2022) to raise awareness and money for the LLS. Our goal is big, but I know we can do it with the help of everyone. Our goal is $100,000! Every donation, large or small, makes a difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read my fundraising page. I know this is an unusual time in our history as we are (hopefully) transitioning out of a pandemic. This has affected LLS and the patients it supports. The unfortunate reality is cancer does not take time off. I hope you can join us in this effort so we can be the answer to curing cancer. Please support my team in one of the following ways.

  • You can make a donation via check made out to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with “SOY Lila McNamee” in the memo line and mail it to LLS Greater Los Angeles P.O. Box 102492 Pasadena, CA 91189-2492.

  • You can sponsor my campaign the Students of the Year’s Grand Finale Gala and receive partnership benefits from LLS. Just ask me how! ☺

  • You can donate an auction item/experience that will be auctioned off at our Grand Finale Gala. Like a vacation home stay, merchandise, or even tickets to a football game!

All donations are tax-deductible (13-5644916). If your company offers a matching gift program be sure to submit it. Please share my website with anyone you think would be interested in donating. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support. For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org

Best,

Lila

Lila, your campaign is timely. January 30th marks the 25th anniversary of my breast cancer diagnosis. My father, a huge supporter, put together a cancer center in Santa Cruz (Katz Cancer Center) in my honor. Ironically, he was subsequently diagnosed with leukemia and passed away in 2007. I hope you reach your goal. It's people like you who really make a difference in the world. You go girl!!!
