I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?

As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.

Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day. 

We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!

I have been personally inspired to take part in this campaign. I wanted to honor the strength and courage of two women who have been role models in my life. Shannon Grossmann and Emily Winfield. They are family to me, and I would not be where I am today without the love and support I have received from both of them.

Shannon has been a long time family friend who was there from the moment I came into this world. And she and my Mom have been friends for over 25 years. Shannon lost her battle with cancer just this year and her passing has had a deep impact and affect on our entire family. The shock at how quickly she was taken away (and so young) will have lingering effects on all og us. The loss of this bright light in all of our lives made me want to do everything possible to give others with her diagnosis a brighter future for themselves and their families.

Another shining light, Emily Winfield, an amazing force in our lives, is currently in a battle with cancer. Her son Ethan has been one of my closest friends since I was 4 years old. She has fought with all of her strength and has also inspired me to have to drive and determination to help others who are in their own struggle against this horrible disease. While I personally cannot even come close to imagining what these women have and are going through, I know that I want to help as many people as I can.

Pierce was diagnosed with AML in April of 2017 when he was just shy of 2 years old. After over 100 days in the hospital, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, 31 platelet transfusions, 15 blood transfusions, and a bone marrow transplant, Pierce has been cancer free for over 3 years!
