Dear Friends and Family,

My name is Alyssa Dollase and my friend Kimberly Cabral and I have been nominated to be candidates for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year program! As Student of the Year candidates, we have joined together with our friends and family to raise money for the people who are suffering or have suffered from blood cancer. We have decided to join the LLS family and create our team, “KnA Save the Day.” The purpose of both “KnA Save the Day” and the LLS is to cure blood cancers through research, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families through advocacy. We are learning so much about these diseases and the revolutionary research that targets them. 

Both Kimberly and I have been touched by cancer in some way. My great grandmother passed away from Leukemia and it makes me so sad that I was never given the chance to meet her. She was a loving mother, daughter, wife, and friend and I am proud to say that I will be running in her memory. We are running our campaign in honor of our family members and the people who have been affected by any cancer, especially blood cancer. Unfortunately, more than one third of blood cancer patients do not survive five years after their diagnosis, but that is where LLS is making a difference. Since their founding in 1949, they have invested more than $1.2 billion in research! Over that time, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled. 

On January 16, 2020 we will be kicking off the 7 week fundraising campaign. This campaign is to raise not only money but awareness to the growing need to find a cure for blood cancer. For our project, we have set a goal of $50,000! Our goal is set high because we have been inspired by this society and believe in our wonderful teammates that we can reach this goal. We want to be part of the change to find a cure for blood cancers. 

LLS’s mission to cure these diseases and fund life-saving research has inspired us to take part in this battle against cancer. We, KnA save the day, invite you to join the fight to save lives. Let’s conquer cancer together! Although it will be challenging to reach our goal, with your help we can do it! Every donation, large or small, makes a difference!
