Lauren's Students of the Year Fundraiser
Hi all!
I am extremely honored to announce that I have been nominated for the 2021 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Student of the Year! For those who are not familiar, this is a nationwide philanthropic leadership program which encourages driven high schoolers to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
My team, Caring for a Cure, is dedicating our campaign to my cousin Riley. Riley was diagnosed with Wilms’ Tumor at only 4 years old. After having her kidney removed she went through chemotherapy, though six months later a spot on her lung was found. This also had to be surgically removed, requiring her to go through radiation treatment and chemotherapy yet again. Luckily, these numerous treatments helped her overcome cancer, and she's been in remission for almost 4.5 years now! While Riley did not have Leukemia, over 40% of approved cancer treatments since 2000 have been blood cancer treatments, and the majority of all other cancer treatments stem from these. LLS is committed to helping children fight tremendous battles at young ages, funding revolutionary technology from CAR T-cell immunotherapy to genomics which trace the drivers of these devastating cancers. Doctors like those at LLS who are committed to saving young lives have inspired Riley to want to be a doctor herself when she grows up! By raising money to fund patient advocacy, support, and new technology, we can contribute to a cure and finally put cancer to rest.
No child, parent, or person of any age deserves to go through this suffering - this is why LLS and their research is so important. Not only has LLS put in over $1.2 BILLION dollars into cancer research to develop 68 of the 71 FDA approved blood cancer treatments since 2017, they are also there to support patients and their families both physically, emotionally, and financially throughout their battle.
However, there is still so much more to do, which is why my team has set a goal of $50,000 to fund a research portfolio which will be under our name, and I have set a personal goal of $20,000 to help us reach this! Our fundraising begins Monday, April 5th, and runs for 7 weeks to help raise as much money as possible to cure cancer, once and for all. Any donation, big or small, helps and is 100% tax deductible - LLS’s Tax ID # is 13-5644916.
Thank you for your generosity and helping us save lives.
Until a cure,
Lauren Nicholson

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, welcome!
I encourage you to join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. By donating to LLS, you support the many facets of LLS’s mission work from investing in groundbreaking research, providing education and support to patients, and advocating at the state and federal level for legislation to help those living with cancer. My appreciation for your support cannot be overstated — each and every dollar donated to LLS brings us closer to our goal to end blood cancer and makes an impact for cancer patients and their families.
As a global leader in the fight to end cancer, LLS is committed to doing more for blood cancer patients and families than any organization in the world. LLS’s signature fundraising campaigns drive critical support for its mission, including a nearly $1.3 billion investment in cutting edge cancer research worldwide since it was founded in 1949. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled.
Every facet of LLS’s mission – research, education and support, and policy and advocacy – work in harmony to put blood cancer patients and their families first. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases. That is why at LLS we say that beating cancer is in our blood.
Please visit my website as often as you can and share it with everyone you know who would also like to join us in the fight against cancer. Together, we have the power, the passion and the resolve to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible.
On behalf of cancer patients and their families everywhere, I sincerely thank you for your support!
