I am a junior at Thousand Oaks High School and proud to accept candidacy for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Students of the Year 2021 program!

As a global leader in the fight to end cancer, LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout the past 70 years and continues to work towards its mission of curing blood cancers. They have invested nearly $1.3 billion in research in order to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that not only help blood cancer patients but many patients with other cancers and diseases. LLS has already made incredible progress by funding 55 of 65 FDA treatments. We need your help to support the continuation of this great work.

LLS created an amazing philanthropic leadership program for high school students. It is designed to provide students with leadership, team-building skills, and real-life experiences. As a Students of the Year candidate, I am running this campaign from April 5th to May 22nd to help spread awareness, fund treatments, and support LLS's research to find a cure.

Each year, more than 1.2 million people, including 3,679 children, are affected with blood cancers. I am dedicating this campaign to one brave child, Bella Toma. Bella was 3 years old when she was diagnosed with leukemia. As you can imagine, this is heartbreaking news for a family to receive. While other kids were playing and starting school, Bella spent 2 years of her life battling leukemia. She endured chemotherapy treatments and the countless days spent inside hospitals, all of it taking a huge physical and emotional toll. Thankfully with treatment options through LLS, Bella is now eight years old and in remission. Bella’s strength and optimism through her battle against cancer are inspiring and admirable. I am fundraising in her honor because I do not want to see any child go through what she did.

I have assembled an incredible team of family and friends to work towards a common goal of making a difference in people's lives. I decided to take on this challenge for all the families impacted by cancer and to do my part to help find a cure for the future generation, because change starts here, with me, with my team, and through this LLS opportunity.
