Dear Friends and Family,

Today more than a million Americans are fighting a daily battle with blood cancers and every 3 minutes another person unwillingly joins the fight. I have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the battle and help those living with blood cancers. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has nominated me as a candidate in their Greater Phoenix Student Visionaries of the Year campaign, and I could not be more excited to make a difference in the lives of patients across the country.

Student Visionaries of the Year is a seven-week leadership development program that runs from January 11th to March 2nd to raise money to help blood cancer patients not only survive but thrive after treatment. I am writing today to ask for your support of my campaign and LLS’s mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients. 

We have created a team of committed friends and family to partner with me on this journey. Together, we have set a fundraising goal of $75,000! The money raised helps LLS, the largest nonprofit dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers, fund research to advance lifesaving treatments, drive advocacy for policies that protect patient access to these treatments, and provide patients and families with hope, guidance, education, and support. Our candidate team, Dreams Beyond Cancer, is particularly passionate about Patient Support and will represent this area of LLS during my campaign.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics, and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

I am participating in this program because through working at Barrow Neurological Institute this summer, I saw first-hand how negatively cancer impacts families and I hope that by the time I become a doctor, no one will suffer from cancer. My campaign will provide support to the critical work of LLS in hopes that one day no one will have to grow up without the ones they love. I know that with your help, I can reach my goal and make a direct impact in the fight against blood cancers.
