Our names are Arnav Verma and Anoushka Dave. We are honored to be supporting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year program which is a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We are raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team who raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Often, many of us hear about the tragedies of blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma; we see astonishing facts such as “every 3 minutes, somebody is diagnosed with a blood cancer.” However, most of us are not able to do anything to fix it. Not only do we lack the ability, but we also do not have the knowledge regarding what leukemia or lymphoma is or how it is treated. As students, we fell in the same boat. We had limited knowledge about blood cancers and we did not have any connection to them. We researched stories of those affected, learnt about the life-changing consequences of leukemia and lymphoma, and decided that we would make a change. There are endless possibilities of how the money we raise can make a difference. Patients deserve to have their questions answered. Patients deserve to receive treatment. Patients and their families deserve to be supported. That is what the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provides them with, and that is why we have joined this campaign. Through the Students of the Year campaign, we have a remarkable and rare opportunity to help the lives of those affected during and after the diagnosis of these deadly diseases. Now, we are asking for your help to make the most out of this opportunity. We might not be affected, but we certainly can make a difference.
