My name is Jake Zimmerman, and I am a Senior at The Kings Academy High School in West Palm Beach, Florida.

This year I am privileged to be nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) 2018 Student of the Year Campaign.  Over a 7 week period (January 18 to March 9), I have set a goal to raise $20,000 to help cure blood cancers!

Please join me today in support of this campaign and LLS’s mission in its efforts  to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease or myeloma.

My dad was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder in 2003 when I was 3 years old. His blood disorder benefits from the cancer research LLS funds. Because of this, my mom joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training (TNT) endurance program shortly after his diagnosis and continues to be a participant in TNT in an  effort to raise funds and awareness. Now it is my turn to help fight for those that cannot fight for themselves.

One hundred and forty-eight people die from blood cancers every day. Each charitable dollar you contribute makes a significant impact. The funds my team and I raise are in honor my dad and Beckett, a local child diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) when he was 9. Beckett is now 12, and currently in complete remission, but continues to visit St. Jude’s monthly for chemo and check-ups. Beckett will finish his treatment in fall of 2018.
