Welcome To Rick's Scenic Shore 150 Fundraising Page.
If you don't know about the Scenic Shore 150 Bike Tour, it is a two-day, 150 to 175 mile, fully-supported bicycle ride in July, from Meqon to Sturgeon Bay. We describe it as going up the West Coast (of Lake Michigan). In order to do the ride, I need to raise some cash for the important work of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), and that's where I need your help. This will be my fifth Scenic Shore 150, and I've increased my fundraising total each year. These increases have not been planned, but have occurred naturally. Each year, I've become more enthusiastic as I've learned more about what LLS does and the importance it makes in peoples' lives, providing funding for patient services and for cutting edge, peer reviewed cancer research. For example, LLS is currently funding a research project at U.W.'s Carbone Cancer Center. Over the last five years, I've had friends on my bike team, the Lymphomaniacs, and met people at LLS events who are cancer patients/survivors and who have received treatments based on LLS-funded research. Unfortunately, we've also lost a teammate to cancer.
Last year, the Lymphomaniacs raised $130,000 and the Scenic Shore 150 raised $1.4 million for this important mission. While the LLS focus is on blood cancer, many of the LLS-supported therapies have been adapted to treat other forms of cancer, including rare forms of stomach and skin cancers, and are being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. Also, LLS-funded drugs are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.
Please join me in supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.
Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thanks for your support!
