Carmen Montiel, 70, of Queens Village, New York passed away on Saturday, March 04, 2017 after a short battle with Leukemia. She was born in Camaguay, Cuba on June 26, 1946 to Mario Alemany and Hilda Soriano. She was married to John Montiel on December 12, 1964 and soon thereafter had her 3 sons, John, Jimmy, and Paul.
Carmen went out of her way to help everyone and anyone in need. In recent years she had reconnected with her family in Cuba, making 2 trips back to her homeland with much needed clothes and supplies. In her spare time she was very active in Our Lady of Lourdes Church making shawls for the elderly and assisting in the church office. She loved organizing just about anything that could and should be organized. However, her favorite pastime was spending time with her husband, her family and friends, and her grandchildren - her greatest pride and joy. Whenever possible Carmen could be found at her favorite place on Earth, Mountainview, her home away from home in upstate New York.
Carmen is survived by her husband John of 52 years, their sons John Jr. and his wife Catherine, James and his wife Barbara, Paul and his wife Euridiss, and their grandchildren Sean, ToniAnn, Amanda, and Ashley. She is also survived by her brother Mario, her nephew Mario Fernando, and her oldest and dearest friend, Laura Vidal.
Carmen’s wonderful life will be celebrated with memorial services at R. Stutzman & Son, located at 224-39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, New York on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel located at 92-96 220th Street, Queens Village, New York on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 9:45 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
