The Links Fore Leukemia Golf Tournament was founded by Jim Willis and Bob Barker in 1997. Several months after the inaugural tournament, Willis lost his personal battle with leukemia at the age of 37. Bob Barker began his journey with AML in May of 1991. Bob is a trailblazer in the Dallas community. He was the first to have a successful donor Leukocyte infusion as an outpatient. After that procedure, Bob was declared in remission. However, the battle with chronic Graft vs. Host Disease is ongoing.
The tournament co-founders created a strong legacy of fundraising, deep friendships, and a drive to improve life for blood cancer patients. Barker and Willis organized an event that has raised more than $2.9 million for blood cancer research.
Individuals can get involved through individual or corporate sponsorship, creation of corporate teams, or forming a foursome of friends and family members. Prizes are given to the top foursomes and the event concludes with the first ever Links Fore Leukemia Helicopter Ball Drop, cocktail hour and silent auction, lunch, and awards reception.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is excited to return to such a high quality venue, where the tournament was once held. Offering two gorgeous, world-class Frisco golf courses, the lengths to which Stonebriar has gone to create a superior Frisco golf experience are evident. In its first year, the original Stonebriar Frisco golf course, designed by famed course designers Joe Finger and Ken Dye, received the prestigious honor of being nominated for the “Best New Course in the Nation.”
In 2000, world-renowned course architect Tom Fazio designed the Club’s second phenomenal 18-hole course, resulting in a distinct style of golf in Frisco that allows Stonebriar Members to vary their game. Each round provides an extraordinary opportunity to remember why you truly love this incredible game.
