Welcome To My Big D Climb Personal Fundraising Page.

I will be participating in the Big D Climb on Saturday, January 30, 2016.  Please support me with a donation.  Our efforts will help make a big difference in the fight against blood cancers.

What is the Big D Climb?
The Big D Climb is a stair climb up 70 stories of Bank of America Plaza in Downtown Dallas. Although it will be challenging, it pales in comparison to what blood cancer patients go through.  All proceeds benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Who is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, LLS has invested more than $600 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.

Friends and Family,

February 9th, 2012 is a day we will never forget. This was the day we found out our father and best friend had Leukemia. I could tell you where I was, what I was wearing and how warm the tears felt as they ran down my face. Our dad was everything to us as he had raised us on his own for most of our lives. His love was always unconditional and his heart was huge.

Carrie and I rushed to be by his side and one of us was always with him for most of his battle with the help from his two sisters. The next few months were intense and extremely difficult for all of us. He was so brave. During the multiple rounds of chemo, stem cell transplant, walking the hospital hallways - He never complained. He fought against Leukemia for his daughters, sisters and for his grandsons.

I remember one time after receiving bad news, Dad sat there in the hospital and kept winking at me while the doctor was talking to let me know everything would be okay. He was more concerned with how I was going to take the news than he was with hearing devasting news. That was Dad. He would put us before himself any day of the week.

Dad's younger sister, Winona was his stem cell donor. She was a perfect match! Because of her stem cells, we had a few more months with Dad. Although, we spent most of his time at the hospital - Dad was able to go home for a few weeks and enjoy some home cooked meals and his favorite - Apple Pie!

On August 14th, 2012 - We lost our dad to Leukemia. He is missed every second of every day. Carrie and I try to make sure all of our boys hear Gramps stories and learn about the man that fought so hard to watch them grow up. He would have done anything to be here today.

We will climb in his wonderful memory on Jan 30th. We climb so no one else has to lose a father like we did. We climb for other surviors especially Pancho Averill. The Averill family has always been a huge supporter of the Westbrook girls.  We ask you to join our cause, and fight with us!

We ask you to join our cause, and fight with us!

Thank you for all of your love and support.

Julie Westbrook Eisenberg & Carrie Westbrook Smith

Garza Family,
In memory of a wonderful man, I know the precious daughters he left!
Diane Dishm,
My mom was Darrell's stem cell donor. She wouldn't donated a thousand times over, if she could! Now, she is in the midst of her own cancer battle. It's time to rid the world of cancer/cancer related diseases! My uncle was one of the finest men I ever knew. So grateful for the testimony of love his daughters live, through their activism and efforts to spare others a similar loss while simultaneously honoring their dad.
Dayna Schocke Chung,
My liver melanoma is being treated by immunotherapy, which I recently read is being considered to treat AML, the disease that ended my dear brother's life. Every dollar donated to cancer research may save the life of someone you know and love, if not now, in the future. Proud of my nieces and their friends and supporters who climb and give!
