The Student of the Year Campaign is a six-week initiative in which High School students  from around Maryland participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.   Candidates will raise money in honor of a teen patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer.  The candidate who raises the most money at the end of the six weeks is named The Student of the Year. Staff members from LLS will guide candidates through the whole fundraising process, from help with letter writing and sponsorships to event planning.  The amounts raised during the 6 week period, beginning on January 12th, are TOP SECRET and are not disclosed until February 27th, 2015 at the Grand Finale Gala Celebration.  The Gala, a black-tie affair at the Hotel at Arundel Preserves, features live and silent auctions, fabulous food and drinks, music, dancing, acknowledgement of the candidates, and the exciting announcement of The Student of the Year!

The Student of the Year recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship to a college or university of his/her choice.  Every candidate who reaches the minimum fundraising requirement of $10,000 will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,000. In addition, one student will be awarded Citizenship honors and will receive an $500  to a college or university of his/her choice.

If you or someone you know are interested in being a candidate, please contact Corinne Mayers at 443-471-1620 or by email at corinne.mayers@lls.org

Please join us in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to to the Student of the Year campaign or purchasing a ticket to the Gala. Your support will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.

LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs like Gleevec, Sprycel, Arinza, Tasigna and Zolinza are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
