There are many charities that we support, and while they are all extremely worthy causes, few have touched us personally like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). In 2014 Steve and I watched one of our very best friends fight a losing battle to AML – a severe form of leukemia that takes so many lives. An employee’s son is undergoing treatment for lymphoma. Steve’s step-father lost his battle to leukemia before there were sufficient treatments brought about by LLS. Several members of our yacht club are leukemia or lymphoma survivors.
Since 2009 Offshore Sailing School has been a national sponsor of the Leukemia Cup Regatta, an inspiring series of fund raising events that support LLS by bringing sailors together to raise money and compete in a fun atmosphere. It is truly one of the greatest fundraising events, involving supporters like us, patients who have suffered or are still suffering from blood cancer, and those who have lost loved ones or friends to leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. We are all working together as one family to find cures – because we care.
It’s rare that we reach out to our friends and clients for donations, but we feel so strongly about LLS we are asking that you join in this national effort to raise funds for research and blood cancer treatments, through sailing.

P.S. Happily, this past year new and positive treatments were developed, because of LLS’s efforts. Three new FDA-approved blood cancer drugs are now in use to help cure patients and one new therapy is on the fast track for FDA approval. Add to that, over $40M has been given in financial assistance to patients who otherwise could not afford treatments that are keeping them alive.
