16 years ago, my grandfather (Chief), passed away from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia only 4 months after I was born, and was never able to meet his 5 other grandchildren. When Chief was first diagnosed, doctors did not think he would live to see my mom graduate high school. He fought for 17 years. He saw my mom graduate high school and college, he got to walk her down the aisle, and he got to become a grandfather. Chief never would have been able to do this if it weren't for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and donations from people just like you.

My family has always supported LLS, but when I heard about the Student of the Year campaign, I knew it was something I had to take part in. It is a chance for me to personally make a difference...and you can too! Over a 6 week period (January 14, 2016 to February 26, 2016) I will attempt to raise as much money as I can for LLS.Once we reach $50,000, I will be able to name a research grant in honor of my grandfather, Chief. 100% of the money we raise together will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

152 people die everyday across the U.S. from blood cancers. With your help, we can lower this number and eradicate not only blood cancers, but all cancers.

WTG Payton! And way to go Maureen and Bella for helping Payton reach her goal. Before Multiple Sclerosis, I did my first bike century in 1999 to raise money for LLS. A little over a year ago my neurologist lost his son to leukemia. It's a cause close to my heart. Bless your efforts!

Payton, your grandfather Chief, Tommy to John and me, was special in every way possible! He continues to be missed by us and by all who knew and loved him. When I think of your grandfather, I can still see his fingers drumming on the dashboard of the car while he sang to "Can't Get No Satisfaction" on the radio. Payton, I was so lucky to have been your Grandmommy Lindsay's teaching partner for 4 years. I was working with her when your mom and dad got married, and when you were born.
