On May 19th, I will once again be participating in Big Climb Philly, co-captaining Team YOLO (You Only Live Once).
What is Big Climb Philly?
- It is the third annual Leukemia & Lymphoma (LLS)-sponsored stair climb to the top of one of Philadelphia’s skyscrapers, the FMC Tower. The climb is a fun, one-of-a-kind event, providing an opportunity for us to test ourselves as we climb 46 flights of stairs all the way to the top!
- It is also a fundraiser in support of the LLS mission: To cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Why am I Climbing?
If you are reading this, you know my story. I am climbing because:
- I can
- LLS sponsored research for a drug that was a game changer in my treatment for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL). I want to help fund LLS research that continues to save lives and, one day, leads to a cure for cancer.
- I have been asked to be the 2018 Honored Hero for this event. I said “yes” when asked, because my motto is You Only Live Once so Just Say Yes! I also said yes on behalf of all the heroes I have met since I was diagnosed in 2011 - those who are survivors, those who are fighting a blood cancer, and those that are care givers, supporters and cheerleaders.
I’m guessing there’s a good chance there is a hero out there that you know, as every four minutes someone new is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
What Can You Do?
- Climb with Team YOLO on May 19th. By joining Team “YOLO”, you'll be making a real impact on the fight against cancer. Beyond climbing for a cause, we know you’ll have fun and will probably meet new friends along the way.
- Support my fundraising campaign and that of Team YOLO. Last year Team YOLO raised over $5000; this year we are setting our goal a bit higher - $7500!
Here’s to having you help Team YOLO to climb, conquer and cure!
