Leukemia is the most common cancer in children, adolescents and young adults less than 20 years old, causing more deaths than any other cancer among those in this age range. Together we are Cycling For Life, to fund the fight and making someday, today.
Savanna- Local Honored Hero!
At 6- years- old, Savanna was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) after her summer vacation. Throughout the trip, she had been experiencing severe fatigue, as well as back and leg pain. After a visit to a local urgent care facility with multiple blood tests and x-rays, the doctor told Savanna’s parents to take her to the emergency room immediately for further testing. After a bone marrow biopsy, Savanna was diagnosed with leukemia and had a mediport surgically inserted to begin her two-year chemotherapy protocol. Savanna achieved remission within 29 days of her first dose and continued two years of treatment on an outpatient basis to keep the cancer away.
Now 9 years old, Savanna’s last day of hospital treatment was Sept 30, 2015 and she took her last pills at home on November 2, 2015. Savanna lives in New Rochelle, New York with her parents, Jenn and Angelo, and 5-year-old brother A.J., and has now been cancer free for almost three years!
