Christian is host of RightThisMinute, the viral videos show, on ABC across the United States. She explains in her own words why this is such an important cause for her:
When I was approached to help raise funds in support of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society I immediately came up with a way to merge my love for motorcycles and kids that have or are still battling some form of leukemia.
I was fascinated by the contrast between the fragility of a child battling the disease juxtaposed against the strength in their character symbolized by the powerful engine of a motorcycle. I am committed to this cause because leukemia and lymphoma are a stark reality for so many people. So many of us have been affected by it directly or indirectly, but for sure most of us have had a story with Leukemia/Lymphoma. I’m dedicating this calendar to the memory of my uncle Alejandro Vera. He was 27 years when he was diagnosed with leukemia. I was in junior high when my parents pulled me out of class and said we were driving to Los Angeles to see him. We had no time... by the time my parents got to the hospital, my Tio Pichon (as we lovingly called him) was taking his last breaths. I didn’t get a chance to see him again and
I’ll forever miss his kindness and ability to always make us laugh. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. RIP tio Pichon! That’s my story... I’m also dedicating the calendar to each and every story featured in the calendar.
Every child, their perseverance and resilience brought me to tears, but also reminded me that life is a gift we all must fight for every single day... with a smile!
I want to thank every single person that has helped me along the way with this project. Thank you to the amazing group of professional photographers that donated their time and exceptional talent for every single photo. Thank you to every rider that lent me their motorcycle. Thanks to my friends and my show RightThisMinute for supporting me. Thanks to the parents.
Most importantly, thanks to all the kids I met along the way. Your smiles lifted my soul. You will forever live in my heart
