Portland Students of the Year
Team PURPOSE.
Welcome to Team PURPOSE's SOY Fundraising Page!
Dearest Friends and Family,
Hello! My name is Natalie Snow and I am honored to tell you that I have been nominated to be a candidate for the 2018 Students of the Year campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I am partnering with my friend, Olivia Porior, to compete against nine other teams to raise as much money possible for our team, PURPOSE. All of the proceeds go to LLS in hopes of finding a cure for blood cancer.
My sister, Audrey Elizabeth Snow, was born on September 22, 1999. She was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was very young. She went through a number of treatments that made her very sick. These treatments were not a guarantee of her surviving but they were available because of all the research that had been done. She passed away when she was only 8 months old, because the treatments she went through just weren't enough. Since 1964, the survival rate has increased from 3% to 90% because of all the work LLS has committed to finding a cure.
Since 1949, LLS has invested over a billion dollars to progress cancer therapies. There have been 39 cancer-fighting drugs passed by the FDA in the last decade that show promise of treating blood cancers. Just this last year, in 2017, 12 drugs were passed by the FDA all with the help of LLS by their fundraising. LLS has played a significant role in finding these cancer fighting drugs because of their outstanding fundraising. Many of the treatments invented help other diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
We have seven weeks to raise as much as we can to help find better treatments and cures. Our campaign startson January 11th and runs through March 4th. With your support, I know we can do something amazing. The slightest bit helps, in every way, because it all goes to help patients who are very sick. LLS has helped make survival rates go up because of their fundraising. I hope to make them go up even more with your help!
Thank you,
Natalie & Olivia
