Welcome To My Fundraising Page!
I am honored to have been accepted as a candidate in the 2018 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
I am running alonside my best friend, Belle Ditthavong. We were first introduced to the LLS community last year, when multiple of our friends had their own teams. We were immediately inspired and knew that we wanted to be candidates for the 2018 year.
I am raising critical dollars in honor of Lance Bigelow, a local high school freshman who is now in remession from Leukemia. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team who raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. My mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
I realized that every little thing really does make a difference and no help goes unnoticed. I am embarking on this campaign not only to raise money for LLS, but also to inspire people to get more involved with helping those in need.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!

As a child I watched my grandfather fight his battle with acute leukemia. He lived with us on the weekends and I got to take care of him. As difficult as it was on my grandfather he never complained, he would work with my father on our family farm even when he was very sick. I would often ask him why he was so sick and he would tell me not to worry about it but to be thankful and learn from it, there were thing to be done that day. Fittingly, my grandfather succumbed to acute leukemia on Thanksgiving morning when I was 11 years old. Please accept this donation in memory of Homer Yarber.

Though he fought with all of his strength to meet his grandson, my dad died nine days before my son, Elijah was born. Elijah's middle name, Avi, short for Avram, is in honor of my father Alan. Though we did not realize it when we chose this name, Avi means my father, and we could not be prouder that Elijah's middle name is in honor of mine. My dad’s Hebrew name, Avrum, means father of many. I don’t know what I believe in terms of divine intervention, but I do know that when Elijah Avi was born, he looked just like my father. It does make me wonder if my dad was there that day. His gentle nature will live on through his grandson who will learn about his grandfather through the stories that his family will share with him—and Elijah Avi will be proud to be my father’s grandson.
