Our names are Allison Winker and Dani Crispin, and we are both seniors at Mill Valley High School. We are excited to be co-candidates for the 2018 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Students of the Year campaign as team Fairy Godsisters. Students of the Year is a 7-week fundraising competition between high school students in the Kansas City area, where funds go directly to patient assistant programs and treatment development to help put an end to blood cancers. We have set a goal to raise $5,000 over the course of our campaign, but we need your help to make this happen.

Although neither one of us has a direct connection to blood cancer, we are passionate about the fight to end cancer. For the past three years we have been very involved in our school’s Relay for Life, which has raised over $125,000 for pediatric cancer research. Seeing the impact that Relay has had on our community inspires us to do even more for such an important cause. We also know firsthand the terrible effects that cancer can have on a patient as well as their family and friends. Allison’s mom is a three-year breast cancer survivor, and Dani has several family members who have fought various forms of cancer.

Why should you donate to LLS? Half of all cancer drugs approved by the FDA in the past decade were originally designated for blood cancer. It is believed that all cancers, not just blood, will likely be cured through blood cancer research. This means that your donations are not just going to help blood cancer patients, but all cancer patients.
