Jan 25, 2018

Maille Heneghan, Jacey Ice, and Maddy Long are honored to announce their candidacy for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Students of the Year Fundraising Campaign! The three girls (aka the Incredibles) are working hard to reach their goal of $10,000 in just 7 weeks of fundraising! Their campaign lasts January 12th, 2018 - March 3rd, 2018. All donations contributed through this link are tax deductible! On March 3rd, the candidate (or team of candidates) that raises the most money for the Students of the Year Campaign will be named Student of the Year, and receive a scholarship for their college education!

How YOU can get involved -

What YOUR donation can do - (every cent makes a difference)

  • Help the Incredibles reach their goal of $10,000, which funds cancer research, puts them in the running for a college scholarship, and earns them tickets to the end of campaign gala

  • $10 - Funds a researcher growing cells in a lab for one week, to understand how well a new blood cancer therapy might work

  • $70 - allows 1 patient to participate in an LLS hosted telephone/web education program featuring medical experts providing the latest disease and treatment information

  • $150 - funds general lab supplies for one week

  • $300 - provides support for one week for an LLS clinical specialists to identify eligible patients for clinical trials to advance new, life saving therapies for blood cancers

  • $900 - allows LLS researchers to isolate T cells from a patient’s blood to be used in a promising experimental immunotherapy clinical trial

  • $1,350 - average cost of ONE DAY of inpatient care at in the hospital for a cancer patient

Maille, Jacey, and Maddy all have personal connections to blood cancers/disorders, and that is why they have decided to take action and raise funds for cancer research through LLS! Each year, the Students of the Year Campaign has an “Honored Hero”, and this year her name is Alyssa Howell. Alyssa was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2013, and now is in full remission. Due to her blood cancer, Alyssa has dealt with some other serious medical issues, such as having open heart surgery. Because of all the time she spent in hospitals, Alyssa has decided to go into nursing! Through Students of the Year, she is raising awareness and funds for her own battle. Below is a photo of cancer-free Alyssa!

Some more information about LLS -

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer and we need your help!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!
