Welcome to Team Tori and Eliza's SOY Fundraising Page!

Jan 24, 2018

Please join us in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to our Student of the Year fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, our efforts will help fund therapies and treatments, and help save lives today.

What is Student of the Year?

Students of the Year is a philanthropic leadership development program for exemplary high school students from across Central Pennsylvania. For seven weeks (Jan 21st - March 9th), we are tasked to utilize our professional skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing, and project management in order to motivate our communities to invest in the mission of LLS.

What does LLS do? How does your donation make a difference?

LLS is an organization thats main goal is to ultimately cure blood cancers. All monetary donations will be used for researching blood cancer and determining which treatments work. LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.

Since blood can be easily accessed, it is the easiest cancer type to be tested for successful treatment. However, successes in blood cancer treatments also helps in the development of successful treatments for other cancer types. Many LLS supported therapies are also used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. Additionally, these possible treatments are being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. Even non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis, utilize LLS funded drugs.

Why should you donate to Eliza and Tori?

Your donations not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well. By supporting us, you will be supporting a variety of patients and their loved ones. LLS funds help touch the lives of millions of individuals. Even though this campaign is ultimately a competition to raise the most money, we are dedicated to educating the community and raising awareness for everything LLS does. At the end of the day, all LLS donations go towards the same goal of defeating cancer as we know it.

All donations, big and small, make a difference. If you are interested in a tax deduction for your donation, please contact us.

What can you donate?

Monetary donations are the most simple form of donation and you will be certain it is going directly towards defeating cancer. 94 cents of every dollar donated goes straight to the research facility. For anyone looking to donate over $100, we will offer advertising benefits. In addition to money, we are also looking for prize donations such as gift baskets, gift cards, coupons, meal catering opportunities, ect.. Whatever you or your business is willing to donate can and will be used to bring awareness and help the fight to end cancer.

Why are we doing this?

Tori: I was nominated to run for Student of the Year last year by Gillian Sommerville, a candidate last year. I’ve been an active member in West Perry High School’s Mini-Thons and seen the effect of cancer on children. While I still support Mini-Thon completely, I see a great need for LLS for helping to end cancer. Only ⅓ of the money raised through the Four Diamonds Foundation goes toward cancer research. The other ⅔ of the donations help to cover the cost of care and family support services. LLS and the Four Diamonds Foundation both hold very important places in my heart and I plan to fight my hardest so that no family ever has to struggle with the hardships, worries, and fears cancer brings. I am doing this so that when cancer is defeated, I can proudly say I helped cure cancer. Email me with any questions: [email protected].

Eliza: I was a part of a team running from West Perry last year and seeing the impact they had on the community really awed me, so that was the original spark of my interest. Then during the process of signing up I learned that while LLS experiments on blood cancers, they then pass on successful treatments to other cancer treatment centers. So when I learned that I could not only help those battling blood cancers but potentially anyone battling ANY type of cancer, I really became invested. Six of my extended family members have battled with cancer, leaving only three survivors. To realize that cancer will target anyone of any age or lifestyle is scary. And then to watch it win is terrifying. I am raising money in the hope that what little impact I always felt like I had, may lead to a ripple effect of good.

Good luck Tori & Eliza ... when you strive to help others, you can never fail. When I was your age, I ran a 24 hour volley-ball-athon for charity at West Perry. I try to participate in one event to help others each year. This year I am doing a 60 mike bike ride for the American Heart Association. So ... proud of you two for starting now to help others ... something that you will hopefully continue to do for a life time .... and happy to see West Perry supporting your efforts :) Go Mustangs!
