Welcome To Sophie's Fundraising Page!

My name is Sophie Klingmeyer and I am currently a senior at Camp Hill High School. Growing up, a handful of my family members have been diagnosed with cancer. Seeing what they had to go through broke my heart and made me want to do everything I can to stop people from suffering. Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my Students of the Year fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, my efforts, will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.

Students of the Year is a philanthropic leadership development program for exemplary high school students from across Central Pennsylvania. For seven weeks, myself and my fellow teammates are tasked to utlize our professional skills such as entrepreneaurship, marketing, and project management in order to motivate our communities to invest in the mission of LLS. I am honored to be a part of this team to raise funds and awareness for the hundreds of patients in Central PA living with blood cancer.

While every story is different and important, I have a story that connects to LLS personally. Growing up, I lived in an area with a Mennonite Church, in fact my neighbors were Mennonite. They had a big family and one of their children was diagnosed with Leukemia. We helped them go to the hospital, and let them use our phones to converse with the doctors, since they did not own a phone or car. With the treatment he received, he was able to attain remission.

LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.

Many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

For example, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago. Luckily she is in remission now but without everyones dedicated work to curing any type of cancer, she wouldnt be reaching her 5 year mark of being cancer free. I have known so many people in my life that have been affected by cancer. My mother, cousin, my best friends grandfather, a really close friend of mine, and I even had a cancer scare myself. I was lucky that the test came back negative but even having that small scare made me so much more passionate and dedicated to helping people battle cancer.
