Hello, my name is Matt Fahn and I am running for the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society's 2020 Student of the Year Campaign(SOY). This 7 week event takes a handful of high school student teams who compete against one another to see who can raise the most money for Blood Cancer Research. It begins this January 16 and runs through March 6.  We may only collect money during this time. Each team has a team leader (or Co-Leader). I am the leader of my team called Tackling Cancer. Blood Cancer affects many each year, and this campaign fuels research to combat it. Blood Cancer has affected me personally, so this campaign means a lot to me, my family and my friends. When I was diagnosed with Lymphoma, I wanted to help people in the same or even a worse situation than what I was in.

I ask for your help in raising my goal of $200,000 for blood cancer research. This campaign is very important to me because on October 17th, 2018, I was diagnosed with Stage 1A Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I began chemotherapy on the night of Halloween and went on to complete 3 months worth of chemotherapy at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital. On January 11th I had my final session of chemotherapy and the following day officially began remission. Since then I was able to go back to high school, and started playing Varsity Football for Palisades Charter High School. My journey was long and hard fought, but in the end I came out a more mature person and had a different outlook on life. Cancer can change people and sometimes it’s for the better. My experience motivated me to give back and help raise money for LLS. 

I was originally put in touch to the LLS through twitter, where a video of me thanking all my family, friends and God went viral.  As soon as they informed me about the SOY event, I knew I would want to run in 2020. I hope I can really make a difference through the funds I will raise.
